Funding Pathways we support
1. ECO4/GBIS: Pay-For-Performance (PFP)
ECO4 and the Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) provide grants for insulation upgrades and whole-house energy efficiency improvements. The UK government has recently consulted on amending these schemes to include a Pay for Performance element - up to 10% of the total scheme. The proposal is to use SMETERs, such as KES’s home energy performance assessment technology, to determine the actual energy efficiency improvements delivered by retrofits. By shifting from calculated to measured savings, the aim is to deliver higher quality retrofits and ensure that promised energy and carbon savings are delivered in reality. The Government’s consultation proposes substantial uplifts for retrofits that are based on Pay for Performance, potentially increasing the projects that can be delivered by ECO 4 and GBIS.
Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund Wave 3
The upcoming WH: SHF Wave 3 programme is set to drive a substantial amount of energy efficiency renovations across social housing in the UK. As for ECO 4, the government has encouraged the use of SMETERs, such as KES’s home energy performance assessment technology, within WH: SHF Wave 3 projects.
Using the KES SMETER, will provide:
- real insight into the true value of retrofit insulation projects;
- an accurate view of the actual space heating demand of a home, supporting the transition to low carbon heating solutions such as heat pumps;
- the insights to determine whether a home, that has had a heat pump installed, can be heated at a lower cost post retrofit;
- a window on the changes made to indoor environment conditions, such as temperature and humidity, pre and post retrofit.
SMETER-based Technology
SMETERs (Smart Meter Enabled Thermal Efficiency Ratings) refer to a group of digital technologies that typically use energy smart meter data and environmental sensors, to assess (rate) the actual energy performance of a home.Whilst today, a home’s energy performance is usually determined using a standard calculation methodology within the Energy Performance Assessment (EPC) tool, the idea of SMETERs is to provide a much more accurate and therefore useful assessment.The KES SMETER has been shown to be up to 97% accurate, allowing asset owners to have a precise view of the energy performance of their homes.
